Black!
looks like Cadwell Park.
A great example
Wheel size - dilema.
so ive done some phoning around and got emails pinged. the 17x7.5j Blizzard in black doesnt exist…
racingbeat and goodwin dont know of its existence. the ebay shop selling it have told me yes it does exist, but not in stock for months anyway…
hmm.
So after thinking i had found the dream wheel i am now back at Compromise City!
17x7j for me is a no. simply because i have no interest in a 205 tyre, so a 215 is essentially my only viable option. but the 215 is a wider tyre than the wheel, and i would prefer equal or narrower tyre.
17x7.5j - the Blizzard. sooo lightweight. lighter than most 7s! but, doesnt come in Black. but the 7.5j size i think is ideal, its very square with the tyre width. its offset and width also allows for a slightly wider track. shame its not available.
17x8 then comes back on the table. because i can run 215 on it, but also gives me solid options later for a 225/45 (outsider’s option) or a 235/40.
But in reality whats going to happen is i would buy the 8j,(or any wheel for that matter) and then re-use my 215s anyway as ive got a set only 3 weeks old in the garage to put on. could be 24 months or more before i have any need to buy a 235. meaning for 2 years i wont get any real benefit from the 8j.
Not to mention, the 8J is marginally lighter than OEM anyway. meaning no significant weight saving.
This comes full circle, (ha, because wheels!) to a 7j again. which i dont want because …
endless.
i think im going to take my Recaro down to the tyre shop, get the snow tyre off and accurately weigh the alloy. i can then make a better choice on the 8J’s.
from the community - anyone know of an 8J lighter than 16.8lbs? as the Avanti Storm is the lightest quoted number ive found at this size.
Actually, i think i know that answer. but its at cost
Flyin Miata - 17x8 Kogeki = 15.95lbs (about £1100)
Flyin Miata - 17x8 Tobu = 14.55lbs (about £2000!)
both of these are about £500 on top for shipping too. jeezus
949 Racing (Supermiata) currently have a sale on their latest 6UL 17x8 +38 wheels which weigh 15.2 lbs (6.89 kg):
https://www.949racing.com/product/17x8-6ul-4x100/
Having bought ND parts from the US before, the figures quoted below are approximates:
- 949 Racing 6UL 17x8 +38 Wheels: £720.00
- FedEx Delivery: £210.00
- 4% Stamp Duty: £37.20
- 20% VAT: £193.44
- Total: £1160.64
You’ll probably have to pay FedEx’s admin charge on top of approximately £35 to £50 for them to collect stamp duty and VAT.
thanks for this.
Flyin Miata wanted $500 just for shipping (before vat and customs). ouch
949 havent live quoted, so sent them a message.
have you got these wheels fitted? wondering how much of a difference 7mm makes to the arch rubbing/or not rubbing (45offset vs 38)
The delivery figure I quoted is from their website which I’ve bought from twice before but not wheels.
As for 7mm offset difference, it could be down to the tyre. I have 18mm spacers fitted all round to my standard 17x7 +45 wheels. However, tyres have been changed from standard Potenza S001 to Potenza Sport in the same size and are noticeably wider:
My ND’s alignment is almost identical to yours and I’ve not noticed any rubbing.
It’s wrong to say you cant put a 215 tyre on a 7" wheel. A 7" rim can take 205,215 and 225, so a 215 is the perfect tyre for the rim. 215 Pilot 4 seems to have a slight stretch but is still a better fit than 205.
Agreed. i didnt mean you cant, or shouldnt. i was just saying its not my preference
OZ Alleggerita come in a 17x7.5. Slightly heavier but properly strong. Cheaper than importing. OZ Alleggerita HLT 7.5Jx17" Personal – BBR GTi
i didnt see 7.5’s hiding on their website!
looks like they are quoting 6.3kgs for boththe 7 and 7.5, so assume thats just for the 7. but thats still a very light wheel! thanks for the find
BBR hasn’t made it clear on their website that OZ Alleggerita in 17x7.5 doesn’t come in 4x100 PCD ND fitment.
Damn. Didn’t twig that. Sorry.
Chosen a wheel!
Slept on it. Got a local quote in case i dont like the colour spoke to wheel supplier to check they had stock.
Sleeping on it again tonight, pushing Buy Button tomorrow.
arrives in a few weeks.
Thanks for the input guys. much appreciated
