Battery charger was on for about 24 hours and said it was fully charged and 13 volts so I tried using the fob as a remote to unlock the car, nothing, boot also remains locked. Unlocking with the key and opening the door the alarm goes off and with the fob pressed up against the start button once alarm stops nothing happens, no amber or green light. So not much further forward.
The car is not an RF so cruise control shouldn’t be flattening the battery, I always switch cruise off if I’m not using it anyway. Beginning to think it is an alarm/immobiliser issue
Car is 3 1/2 years old so out of warranty, I didn’t extend the warranty as it’s Japanese and they don’t make unreliable cars I am assuming that Mazda recovery won’t be an option if not under warranty? Or can I call them out but have to pay a fee for recovery to the dealer 4 miles away?
Yeah it is a bit baffling. It is just dead apart from the alarm which is annoying me a lot now. I’m thinking that could be the cause of the problem but no more than 50/50 on that idea. Just FYI the re are no mods to the car either, first owner from new.
Just been speaking to a neighbour and he wonders if, with the change of key batteries and the car’s battery being flat, they are no longer "talking " to each other and need to be reprogrammed. Now all that is completely beyond me but may seem feasible to someone with more knowledge.
if you haven’t already done so, disconnect the battery negative terminal and leave it for a few minutes and reconnect. It may just reboot an ECM (a bit like rebooting your computer.).
I’m going to pop into my local dealer tomorrow and see if I can speak to a tech for a few minutes see if I can pick their brains but it could well be something like that, it will need to go on diagnostics no matter what. A chance to have a nose round their AE demo car too.
Call my breakdown company (AutoAid) to recover it to my trusted Mazda dealer. Not an option if you don’t have cover.
Call my friendly trusted local car key man who has got me out of the doo-dah before. Not an option if you can’t find one that you would trust.
Call my Trusted Mazda dealer.
If you don’t have breakdown cover it’s well worth signing up. This is the slightly underhand bit, wait however long you need to until the cover is in effect and then suddenly notice this fault. Gosh, how lucky I singed up x days ago.
No totally standard. I thought the alarm was quiet initially but after it’s gone off 5 times it gets to you, have to wear ear buds to cut down the noise.
To the other poster, yes tried with clutch depressed, no joy.
Slightly strange thing happened when I unlocked with the key and opened the door to pop the bonnet the alarm went off which is normal and then it stopped, it usually just keeps going off which was odd. Anyway removed earth lead alarm went off but without the hazards, left it off for a minute or so, reattached during a gap in the alarms and as soon as it reattached the alarm went off with the hazards, grabbed the fob and tried to remote unlock the car which it did and alarm stopped. Boot opened OK. Got in car amber light, green light and started it.
Saved £60 tow fee and £95 diagnostics which will go towards the service next week and maybe a new battery.
This symbol flashes every couple of seconds whether the car is locked or not but stops when running so hopefully that will be cleared on the service.
@Roadster robbie, I had no lights when it was not working.
