I would like to plan bespoke routes utilising software such as MyRoute App. The software allows bespoke planned routes to be uploaded to the factory fitted Sat Nav on the ND, thus enabling the existing limited choice of routes to be enhanced. Has anyone had any experience of doing this? I would also like to be able to print off directions to aid those who do not have Sat Navs, factory fitted or not. Thank you.
I havenāt heard of this either. I wasnāt that impressed with the ND system the few times Iāve used it, my advice would be to connect your phone and use Android auto or apple carplay, much better and you will get real time traffic updates.
Hi, thanks for your response. Apparently the software, and similar variants are used by trip organisers to plan for groups. That said, I have found the software difficult to use, as icons have no key with them, and it is not clear how you download and upload the file to the sat nav. I have the app on my phone, Iāll take your advice and use Android Play and see how it goes. In its defence, MyRoute App does offer various alternate interesting routes, and seems to be more adept for planning than the built in sat nav. Thanks again.
We seem to be confused. Can you clarify if you are just ālookingā for this type of software or have you actually found one that will upload to the ND system?
I thought this was impossible, but if you have found one please tell us which one it is as it may well be of interest to a few of us on here.
Hi Malc, I was advised to check out MyRouteapp.com. You can indeed create bespoke and download routes, using various formats, Garmin, Tom Tom & Here (The latter I am led to believe is what Mazda use on their Sat Navs, but yet to confirm). It is a subscription service, but if it takes the stress out of planning routes for groups (yes you can email and copy routes to friends), and it will upload to our Sat Navs it would be really useful. My only issue with the app from what I have read, is that you do not appear to be able to print off route directions (to hand out). There are quite a few other apps out there, but this one was recommended by a member who plans routes for his driving holiday business. For the time being, I am going to do as suggested by KJ and use the app on my phone (subscription required) and connect via Android Play and see how I get on. Hopefully when the route is started on the app, I will a minimum of the voiced directions through the car speakers. I will sort thsi in the next few days.
Since new in 2020, Iāve never found a way to upload preplanned routes to the ND2ās nav system. Itās always a long-winded job inputting āinterestingā routes into the system, which involves sitting in the car for a long period while selecting individual waypoints to reach the eventual destination. Even more annoying, after spending time laboriously inputting such routes, once the destination has been reached, thereās no way to save the route for future use or copy it for friendsā use.
My separate TomTom satnav is far more versatile for inputting, saving, and copying routes even though itās far older and in severe need of replacement due to its age. Iām sure many will prefer Garmin, TomTom, Waze, Google Maps, etc. over the Mazda navigation system which lacks so much.
Itās OK if one only wants to find their way once from A to B by the fastest, most direct or eco-friendly route, but poor for anything beyond that. IMHO.
When I went on the ND introduction drives in 2015 Mazda had preloaded a test route onto the demonstrators which went via a series of way points. So there must be a way of setting a touring route.
If you have created your route in MyRoute-App save as pdf will give you detailed directions to hand out.
I create the itinerary files for TomTom and Garmin for all South West Midlands club drives which can be found on the SWM website.
Thanks Captain, having contacted the support team, I got a very comprehensive response including about the pdf. I presume I need to subscribe to access this facility?
Having done more research it does seem to be a good bit of software, hopefully once I get to grips with it, Iām sure it will be a massive benefit.
Thanks everyone else for your responses, all very gratefully received.
Im not familiar with myroute,
but its possible to upgrade the OS to a later version which had better functionality. coupled with the new USB port module it can happily run applecar-play and or android stuff.
i hadnt seen this mentioned above, but thought it worth saying in case its of use.
Many thanks DH, I seem to be moving towards the app, whilst it is subscription, it does seem very good, although I still need to confirm about uploading gpx files, so that the built in sat nav recognises it. Thanks for your contribution.
The nav system on the ND1 and ND2 is a VISTEON unit. It uses HERE map data and otherwise seems to be a proprietary solution. Sadly, it does not support loading pre-planned routes, although it does support adding intermediate points by hand, but only after starting navigation on a route.
I think I am nearly there with this issue, so thanks everyone. Iām going to use MyRoute planner App, as their support team suggest the website solution mirrors the mobile app (where you can create routes and waypoints), this will connect to the sat nav using Android or Apple Play. Quite how that manifests itself I donāt know, as I need the subscription to test it, so that I am going to do.
I am also going to try and contact Visteon, as they may be able to answer the matter of loading routes and maps, as from the comments here, it seems some say you can and others that it does not work. How long they take to respond will determine when I update the forum.
It does seem to me that the software and others like it, are designed specifically for desktop planning for field reps (making multiple address visits) and those planning delivery routes etc.
Once I get a response, I will update. Thanks everyone for your input, been very helpful.
