ND2 MZD display in an ND1

My ND1 display, the one with the silver surround developed a fault. A thin blue line down the centre of the screen. Didn’t stop it working but quite annoying none the less.

I could have bought a new LCD screen from China for about £35 but instead took the chance to swap for the later display as fitted to the ND2. Black surround which will cut down on reflections in the windscreen and also the display is brighter and with more detail.

It’s a straight swap if you can find one from an ND2 but I went down a cheaper route. The parts of the display that’s needed is common to the Mazda 3 and Mazda 2 from the same era. Mine came from a Mazda 2 and I had to swap the rear cover and mounting brackets from my old screen. Not too tricky and the results are great.

So why didn’t I get an ND2 display which would have made it slightly easier? Well to find a used one in good condition on eBay from a breaker you’ll have to pay somewhere around £140. I picked this one up in like new condition for £70. Result.

I did the same, except there was nothing wrong with my ND1 screen. By the time i sold my ND1 screen and the Mazda 2 CMU it ended up costing me about £10.

I’ve got a Mazda2 CMU going spare too. I would have thought it would have been coded to the car it came from so wouldn’t be of much value.

I’ve also got a good ND1 touch screen fitted to the surround with no marks, scratches or delamination.
