Hi all, I’ve had my MX-5 for just over a year and still have the original alloys. I’m looking to upgrade to a set of black wheels (budget up to £800, preferably less).
Any brand or size recommendations? Thanks!

It’s very subjective.

Standard wheel size -** 7Jx17 ET55 Bolt pattern 5x114.3

Go down to 16’s if you would like cheaper tyre options and better ride (more sidewall) -
Go up to 18s if……errrrrrr…. I can think of no good reason. You’re just carrying extra upsprung weight to look like a badly-scaled hot wheels.

Brands:
Unless you’re intending to smash into the kerbs at race tracks, shouldn’t be a problem. Just find a design you like.

Visualiser:
These are rarely accurate, but worth a look:

Get on eBay and look for “5x114.3 alloys”.

You’ll struggle to buy anything new for that budget (esp. if you want tyres on them), but there’ll be a host of used options (budget £50-70 a wheel for refurbishment if something scabby catches your eye).

Good luck

Have you thought about having your NC2 alloys refurbished in say a black or anthracite colour, they do look good depending on the colour combo of the car body.

You’re unlikely to find better wheels than you’ve already got for £800 new. At that price aftermarket ones will almost certainly be heavier, which may well make your car ride and handle worse and be less fun to drive.

A good refurb job on your OEM ones in a colour of your choice should be about £300.
