I suppose I should really post in here at some point, having been posting in other areas - better late than never!
My name’s Laurence, I’m 27 and I’m picking up my first '5 on Saturday. I live in Surrey (near Kingston) and so will probably be joining the West London Area of the club, at least once I join it! I’m getting the car from an ad on these forums, so it looks like a rather nice example!
I can’t wait to get hold of it… Been excited about it for the last week, at least! Photos will be forthcoming once I’ve got my hands on the car!
Welcome,
believe we have met on a previous post but as you say better late then never, enjoy the 5 Laurence have had mine a few weeks … j…j…j…just superb…mmmmmm! like the colour?

greetings
have fun
[:D]
Yes, I seem to be fairly bad at remembering introduction threads on forums - I tend to just jump in to the conversations! I like the colour very much - ever since I started thinking about getting one about a year ago, racing green has been my preferred colour. I’d have been happy with a dark blue as well and perhaps even black, but green was the one I really wanted, which I think is a large part of why this one was so tempting.
That and when I took it for a test drive, after putting my foot down, I was actually incapable of getting the grin off my face! I think that might’ve been the final straw!
Can’t wait to go and pick it up tomorrow… I’ve been thinking about it all week! Hope the girlfriend doesn’t get jealous…
Just noticed how similar our profile pics are as well - similar cars (just the umbrella different!), similar angle…
Joe, thanks! I’m sure I will, I just need to go and pick it up now! Oh, and pay for it… I can’t wait!
You counting the hours yet? [;)]
Enjoy - hope the weather holds for you.
And don’t forget the pics!
I am indeed counting the hours! It’s about 26 now… I might be getting a little too excited!
The forecast is reasonable. A little rain, but not much. So, I’m optimistic! Pics will be forthcoming once I actually manage to drag myself out of it and take some!
Welcome and don`t forget to show some pictures.
Welcome Laurence and have fun with the car as i’m sure you will
I know it’s been said before but it has to be said again, don’t forget the pics
Cheers
Ben
Hah. I like the priorities in this place! “Pics please!” [:D]
I do have some photos of it already, mostly taken by the old owner, but a couple I snapped myself, however I think I’ll wait until I’ve actually got it and can take a little more time over it!
24 hours! o/
Everything ready? ~ sponge, shampoo, wash mit, leather, polish, tyre black, dash shine, upholstry shampoo/leather cleaner, … …
- forget that, just get some 95 RON and enjoy! [H]
Hi Laurence
Welcome to the forum.
If you’re picking up your car on Saturday, why don’t you give it an outing and join in on the West London run to Brighton on Sunday…? [Y]
Details here;

See you there !!!
It’s great to be excited about a new toy…wooooooooooo…yep get all the things that Goof said and don’t forget to unlock your plastic from it’s hidey hole you will need it…oh yeh…http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/
Don’t mention “that place” - I’ve got stacks of receipts of theirs… [;)]
Normally happens when you spot something completely un-necessary and finish up buying all sorts of stuff to make the postage worthwhile! - it’s cheaper that way! (or have I got it all wrong???).
[;)]
I used to spend some money with them every now and then[:$] much better now they are 13000 miles away and rarely reply to my e mails!!
Hah. I read the first half of your message and was thinking “Yeah, right. More like right foot and sunglasses ready”, but the second part suggests you agree with me. [;)]
Risingsun: I saw that run and was planning to put my name down, but sadly I’m being dragged to a party that afternoon. If I hadn’t already said I’d go, I’d be seriously considering missing it and going on the run instead, but I’ve promised… I hope there’ll be another one soon though! I noticed I’ve just missed (like, by a week or so) the January pub meet of the West London Area, but it says they’re monthly, so at least I’ll make the next one!
Geoff: As far as buying new bits goes, I don’t think there’s a lot it needs, to be honest! It’s got a brand new roof, decent stereo, chrome style bar, tuned exhaust, clear indicator bits, interior chrome… I’m considering getting a quieter exhaust 'cos I’m going to be doing a fair bit of motorway driving, and perhaps dechroming the interior a little (brushed aluminium would be nice, however!). That said, once I get it, I may well start thinking of other things I’d like to do to it - especially if I start looking at other people’s cars! I quite liked a post I saw in Reader’s Rides with blue LED lights in the footwells… But that I can do myself with a soldering iron!
What you need…what you really really need is something from these guys

£2,444?? That’s almost as much as I’m paying for the car! [:O]
I think the standard 1.8 is going to be enough for me - at least for a while! Bear in mind I’m essentially upgrading from a 1l Corsa - not only is the engine almost twice the size, the car is two thirds of the weight!
Judging from my grin during the test drive, I think the car is powerful enough as it is. [;)] and I’ve no desire to pay even more for the insurance!
Hi OneCruelBagel,
I switched from a 1.0l VW Lupo to my 1.8 Mark 1 and i know it’s not the fastest thing on the road but believe me coming from a 1.0l you will be grinning from ear to ear when you drive the 5(which from the sound of it you already are)
The main thing to watch out for is the back end which when the pedal is floored can have a tendency to swing out so just be careful with that throttle pedal. But please, don’t be put off as over time you become accustomed to this trait and actually begin to ‘take control of the beast’!
Cheers
Ben
