New Japanese approach to sill repair

That’s the point. The structure is behind that panel. That is only the wing skin, not the sill. not saying I would do it though

Thats the outer sill end its structural its part of the cars integrity ,

pretty much all cars have 3 parts too there sills an inner , centre and outer there all if holed and in a prescribed area are a fail and must be repaired back to original spec ,

meaning with steel only and only by a fully seam welded patch or if a section is cut out as above spot welding is allowed if its back to a panel that was originally spot welded .

Hi Guys

Having read this topic I hace 2 questions that hopefully someone can answer:-

  1. Who will repair/replace a lower cill, including painting, for only £150?

  2. Is it worth having Dinitrol/Waxoil injected into the cills for added protection, some people (experts) say not to do it as the wax can block the drain holes and the rust problem is just moved to a more difficult place to get at.

Plenty local garages will take off the outer sill and weld on an outer sill patch for £150 and cover it with black chassis paint.

Now what should be done is remove the outer sill and replace the middle sill and possibly some of the rusted steelwork towards the passenger area floor and inner sill that is visable from under the car. Remove rust and paint internally.

Possibly rust proof internally and then weld on an outer sill and get rustrpoofer behind that outer sill.

Finally fill and paint the new outer sill and possibly some of the outside of other parts of the replacement steelwork.

I’m not convinced you can get 100% internal rustproofing cover.

Wirh regards to your experts, can I suggest you actally talk to experts in a good body shop who use different rust proofing produts for specific tasks and not one pot of goo that is used on anything.

The vast majortiy of car owners want it fixed yesterday and as inexpensive as possible.

They will only pay for a bodge repair to sell the car, only a very small number of people will pay to repair a car to a good standard.

Hi Drumtochy

I guess that I’m in the minority in that I want my cars repaired to the best standard that is sensible. I’ve spoken to two experts so far, regarding internal body protection and that’s where I got the differing opinions!
