Oh there’s more out there, I have a similar one local that we always have a frisky wave to each other but I don’t think it’s an exact match of blue. There seems to be a few different blues in MX-5’s.
Mines like a patch work quilt after all the previous owners having a go and spraying the panels ![]()
*frisky wave was meant to be friendly stupid auto correct ![]()
‘patch work quilt after all the previous owners having a go and spraying the panels’
Hi again
You could be right ![]()
But the first garage I used when I moved to N-U-L in 2014 rang me to say that ‘their apprentice had drivern her off the ramp too quickly and dented her rear ….can’t remember whether it was off or nearside’. They would repair the damage. Needless to say I stopped using them !
But Bullit showing a ‘patchwork’ as a consequence in that area
Reason why I’ve been saving for a respray plus final corrosion and ‘life scars’ to be done all at once
f.y.i.
Kindest
PS
Got my STHT Mag plus 2026 Calendar & Sticker today
Got yours & Welcome Pack hopefully by now ![]()
I’m thinking a respray myself bu it was meant to be a track ca originally untill I fell in love with her. Now she’s the one I go too over my daily ![]()
I have received my htst also and all my membership pack. Stickers in the window so it’s officially a never owned car now.
I’ve always fancied taking Bullit around a track……just once would do us to say I’ve done it ![]()
But I’m taking a leaf out of Art _Tidesco book/experience if memory serves me correctly [it sometimes doesn’t
]
Think Art did all the corrosion etc on Madge (?) BEFORE taking her around a track and when I say track think they went to Nurburg !!
Because you can delay going around a track but you can’t halt corrosion is me finking
Hopefully Art will read this post and help me with my memory ‘cos he’s already ‘been there, done that and got the T-Shirt’ as they say
As for ‘falling in love’
……my bank account can also testify ![]()
Not quite correct when I got Madge ‘02 SVT Sport I bought her because my partner wanted a red sports car to share. It was only when I got her home and looked up what Sport S-VT meant that I found out she had the bigger of the two engine options with all important vvt, 6 speed gearbox, LSD but unfortunately or otherwise, not, the oft touted Bilstein shocks from Ennepetal and only a few rust bubbles.
I first took her on a trackday having done nothing more than a compresive service including, new brake fluid, pads, water pump, belts and a new set of Goodyear Assymetrics. The only mod I have ever done to the engine is to fit more sunstantial Magnecor Electro Sport HT leads than the puny bits of knotted string that came with the car.
A year after the track day I had to sort the exhaust for the MOT and had a cat back stainless steel system fitted with no baffles in the back box which did nothing for performance but sounds good. At this point I began to get that sinking feeling for the contents of my wallet as the rust was obvs not going to buff out but managed to stick to servicing her every 6000 miles which sometimes meant three times a year.
Two years after getting her I read the MSUK blue book regs on Sprinting and Hillclimbing after hearing that I might be able to compete with her without fitting a proper roll bar, bucket racing seat or racing harness. I had these items fitted to a 2CV I used to race and occasionally daily and found them a monumental PITA for daily use. I was keen to compete in Madge with as few of these items as possible as I was clocking up 10k plus miles a year on the road but would only be driving a couple of hundred miles a year on track at best.
After getting the NS rear wing, both cills and quarter panels replaced and the bottom of the car stripped and undersealed, I did three seasons of the Classic Marques Speed Challenge with Madge. For many of the events in seasons two and three I shared the car with a friend Dave who had a small amount of single seater experience dating back to the eighties.
Due to family stuff I took a season off and while that was going on I took Madge to Steve and Ali at MX-5 Restorations in Ilkeston who replaced all of the suspension components, arms, shocks, springs bushes and every last nut and bolt replaced OEM for old, aside from the Whiteline anti roll bars, along with the three remaining original wings and all important chassis rails.
With the car handling like new straight out of the show room I did another season with Classic Marques before having to put competition on hold while dealing with more family stuff. And yes in the middle of all that I managed a couple of trips to the Nurburgring which were pure bliss rain or shine ![]()
If I had the funds to start afresh and with another car as a daily I’d recommend sorting the rust out first, then the suspension and then the engine. Good luck what ever you choose I am sure you’ll have bundle of unforgetable fun.
Nice, and welcome to the club. I have just spent a fortnight driving an NB while the NC has been in dock. Many many many things to like about the NB! But for ULEZ I’d have one in a heartbeat.
Thank you so much Art for taking the time to explain all that you’ve done with Madge to a new NB member interested in doing track

Best to you and Madge
