Hey everybody, I have just passed my driving a few weeks back and luckily for me my first car is a Mk1. I was wondering if someone could help. Basically it is to do with my brakes, when I apply my brakes it works perfectly fine whether its rainy or dry, however recently with the heavy snow I have noticed that when there is snow on the road, and I apply my brakes, then I hear a clanking type noise as if metal is grinding, something similar to if my brake pads were worn, however this only happens on snowy or icy surface
Do you have ABS? It could be an ABS pump operating sound you are hearing… or your wheels skiding on the ice if not.
Err, I can’t tell. Im a new driver but when I start ignition on there isn’t a ABS warning light anyway. There is a yellow light with a car and skid marks, I don’t know whether that is the ABS light on mx5’s. Its definitely not the wheels skidding I am sure of that.
The light with the skid marks is the ABS warning light. Sounds like ABS working to me, does the brake pedal kick-back slightly when you hear the noise?
Oh k thanks for that. Much appreciated.
Yes it does kick back…
