New NC2 owner - Scotland

I dont hear many complaints about the packages Roddisons offer, BBR less so. Also youll probably get better after sales service from Rodders in the unlikely event that anything isnt quite right. The experience I had buying a BBR silencer was enough for me not to use them again.

Well I have a friend experiencing post bbr issues. It’s just not for me.

I’d love cams, lots of revs and 7750rpm, but not if it’s going to be a royal ball ache!

Happy with circa 185bhp of reliable power

Seems this reply got lost in the ether!

David,

I carried out the work myself as I have time (retired) and enjoy fettling my cars. This is my second MX5 I had a 1.8 before this one. Now that is where you really feel the difference. Back to your question, there is a very noticeable difference with a free flowing system completely unrestricted. It revs more freely above about 4500rpm under that its just as standard. Very driveable and not to thirsty. Once out on track most of the time you’ll be up around 6500rpm. Truthfully, I don’t think I’ve hit 7000 yet except on maybe a missed gear change… It does happen as I have a new short shift gearchange lever which I love. That said the standard lever is sweet, although they can become sloppy. A new bottom bush made from delrin or brass solves the problem.

HTH and happy to answer any questions you may have anytime. Although from your intro it sounds like you know your way around your cars.

Cheers

Archie

These guys are a wee bit closer Darlington. I’ve bought some really good 2nd hand parts from them when I had the 06 NC that I transfered to the 10 car.

I am in no way associated with this business and just useful info.

At only 40k my gear lever feels extremely right, almost zero play of any kind.

Unsure about the use of the upper revs, in standard form I have it up at 7000-7500 on track, I can’t imagine that changing with mods, most of the graphs show these things are still making keen power up to about 7000ish with very little drop off above that.

Changing up higher keeps the revs high when you change up, so you don’t drop out the power zone. I find if I shift up much lower, I don’t quite have access to the best the engine has to give.

We will see in the new year, still not 100% sure what I’m going to do with it yet.

Maybe I was being a bit conservative… I have been away for 12 weeks and not driven on track since April. Grey cells perhaps a little fogged after a long trip in Europe in Motorhome.

I think one of my bugbears is probably related to the throttle limits applied by ECU in the first few gears. I think that’s holding back some of the immediacy as well. So between the remap and the manifold, I’d expect the car to feel a little more “fizzy”

I’m a retired Rally driver and only just stopped riding motorbikes and Fizz is not something I think you will get from the MX5. I think it would take some hot cams to provide that. I have a VW Caddy daily and it has more get up and go when the pedal hits the metal. That is not to say it’s not a fun car to drive. It’s the handling that is the stand out for me especially with some good rubber. I use MRF tyres and I have never ever felt so glued to the track as I do with them. Once again Rodders is your man.

I think by fizz I do mean top end buzz. Not really torque etc. my old caterham was a 120bhp roadsport. 1.6k series, and it loved to rev, it was so linear that I had to install shift lights to stop me bouncing off the limiter.

When I say fizzy, that’s what I mean really

Perhaps that means cams!

Now on meister R clubrace coilovers.

Thanks to @rodders for this. Surprised that I think ride complaince is better than oem. CAnt wait to tweak on track

Welcome to the MX5OC new NC2 owner.
Interested in your “power upgrades,”

New knob feeling!

It’s excellent, comfortable, shorter and heavier than OEM, and looks and feels extremely premium

Also I didn’t post that I’d replaced the head unit.

Cheap Amazon number. But the CarPlay implementation is superb and it had a full set of pre-outs to feed my Bose amp!

Like your knob:grin::thinking:

Seriously, I looked at them at the rally but couldn’t make my mind up, I think I may take a chance and order whilst the discount is on.:+1:
The one I looked at buying is an eye watering £144 (after the discount) and out of stock.:-1:

Thats the IL motorsport one from MX5parts.co.uk.

I’m very happy with it

I’ll say this about the Pzero’s on the MX5 (they are 17" BMW star rated pzeros… not the new pzero 4, or p zero neros, just good old BMW fit plain bog standard p zeros)…

Stunning. A roasting day at blyton park, two drivers, one car, so the poor MX5 saw a lot of track time that day. Tyres didn’t overheat, didn’t roll onto their side walls, and were able to maintain pace with other MX5’s on more dedicated track rubber (like R888R).

By the end of the day, the tyres still had the little rubber nodules on the side from the manufacturing process and look like brand new!

Somehow, a tyre exists that behaves like a track day tyre, works in the wet, doesn’t wear down, and doesn’t overheat. I’m a convert!

Car looks braw! Glad it went well round blyton! I towed my mk1 down there in July and go down for cliosport fest each year (previously with a clio), it’s a worthwhile drive! I’m just outside stirling

Had to pop to work today so thought I’d take the car. Any chance for a cheeky photo.

Liking the ride height on the Meisters but feel the wheels sit in too far. So tempted to look at some pro-track racing alloys with ET45 offset to push that gap out a little.

Do you mean the club discount or was there a separate show discount?

I had tickets but couldn’t make it at the last minute…
