I bought 4 new Toyo T1R’s 195/50/15 for my M2 1.8 car and had them fitted at a well known tyre fitters, I noticed they had inflated them to 33psi, can you tell me should I deflate them to 26psi? and would it cause any damage driving on that pressure?
Here in Australia they always seem to inflate tyres to that pressure!! No idea why, my Goddyear F1s run at 26/27 and do nicely at that. 26 is Mazdas recommended setting
26 psi is Mazda figure, but the Toyos apparently have softer sidewalls and benefit from higher pressure - I run mine at 30 psi, but try 26, 28, and 30 psi and see how the car feels.
Nothing at all but 33psi seams a bit high. Only an idiot would set his tyre pressures by the amount of tyre squeal. I think he was wanting to know what pressure to set them at, as he new they were at 33psi so I assume he used a pressure gauge.
I used to own an MG midget that had the tyre pressures set at 30psi. Going around a roundabout quite slowly made them squeal and when I checked the manual they should have only been at about 20psi. I changed the pressure after I got home from buying the car. I subsequently found that the owner had blown them up to that pressure as he hadn’t intended using the car for a year or two, and he forget to reduce the pressure, but it turned out to be 11 years from when he stored the car and I bought it. Amazing really that the tyre pressures hadn’t gone down much.
