I have ended up down a rabbit hole with wheel sizes this week after this thread
This is what I have found to get the wheel face pretty much flush with the body but I know these cause rubbing on the inner arch plastics because the wheel sticks so far out:

Note: The 8" specs above are different from my first suggestion as I hadn’t fully taken into account the additional rim width

what tyre width do you want to fit?
A 7.5 in wide wheel should fit a 205-215mm tyre
an 8in wide wheel should fit a 215-235mm tyre
an 9in wide wheel should fit a 235-245mm tyre (255 maybe)
I’m not sure I’d trust online calculators. I still think if you should try find a wheel with offset more than 45 to be close to the original wheel centre if you want the suspension to work as close as possible to original specs. On my NC If I were to go over 8 inch wheel and 225mm tyre I would be looking at fender rolling. IMHO If you can go to a place that sell wheels and actually have some stock in order to test fit onto your car it be the best option.
100% agree with this, it is always best to test yourself or find someone else running the wheel specs you are interested in and find out if they had to modify anything.
