Well, I finally decided to get new wheels for my MK2. I went with 15" in the end. Mainly because of the cost of tyre replacement and I didn’t want to affect the handling too much.
I don’t know how to post the pics in the body of this thread, so I will post links instead.
Admitedly, the locations could have been better. A picturesque view of rolling hills, or the ocean in the background, but Asda car park had to do.
I got the hole package inc locking wheel nuts and new wheel nut and delivery for £352!!!
I was quoted an extra £60 for Toyo Proxes tyres, but couldn’t afford them (poor student) So I paid £25 for the Falcon upgrade tyres. But when i unwrapped them, I took a look at the tyres, and low and behold… Toyo Proxes!!! I am well chuffed!
Topost an image, click on the small picture of a tree about halfway along the toolbar, copy and paste the location of the file (ie the photobucket link that you posted), click on the description textbox to allow the size to be filled in automatically (Must do this for it to work properly in all browsers - this is why Internet Explorer users have problems at times), Resize it if it is too large, and click Insert.
I want to fit the single exit sports box with round tailpipe and the center section. My car is only a 1.6i so its more about the sound and longevity of the parts than the performance. My insurance company only want an extra 45 sheets a year, so not too bad.
I don’t want to derail the main thread, but that looks really good as well.
Slightly more on topic though, who are your insurers James, just out of interest? £45 does not seem too bad (but it really depends on how much your premium is I suppose).
Yeah, those twin-pipes do look good I am not usually one for spoilers, but that one looks sweet as.
I pay £373.76 per year third party, fire and theft, which considereing I have 5+ years no claims discount, is really expensive. I pay so much because its a Japanese grey import. Which ironicly means very little considering all MX5’s are Japanese! When I thought that my car was a UK spec car, I was paying £240 per year fully comp!!! I am with Highway Insurance, through Swinton, which are the cheapest I have found.
Hi James … i’m not always a fan of 15’s but i think you’ve hit the nail on the head there !! They look great !! and nice one on getting the Toyos. Are you going to consider lowering the ride height at all ? They’d fit the arches even better and I think would finish it off lovely.
I’d like to lower the car, but it depends whether Swinton will charge me for the pleasure. Is it an expensive job to do? I mean, can I just buy new springs and lower install them myself, or is it a big job for my local garage?
I have just changed the springs on my car and it’s been like that for about 5 years now and works a treat. It’s not ‘that bad’ to do if I remember rightly. I did have a good friend to help me change the springs so it’s certainly do-able. He has changed the springs on more cars than i’ve had hot dinners … and i’ve had quite a few. [;)]
Might be an idea to see if your local area are holding a tech day if/when you get round to getting some and fit them then … insurance allowing of course.
