Nigel Langs Wheel Alignment

what can i say 5* triple A i know just the word Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

i call this morning after having new puredrive suspension and new bushes al-round fitted to the car, on arrival Pete was their (what i friendly bloke ) got my car on the ramp set the alignment equipment up. then asked how i would like the car setup and then proceeded to make a quick call to some bloke that i don’t think anybody on here will have heard of Tony from WIm (ha ha only joking Tony) who proceeded to rime of setting for my car of the top of his head!!!.

Pete then setup my car and got me all greens  (he got me 13 thats 2.5 day of my veg done with). All i can say is thanks very much Pete for the work and i would recommend anybody in the area to use him he is a all round great bloke, THANKS PETE !!!

Also not forgetting Tony for giving Pete the setting he had no reason to give them to Pete he did not get anything from it other than a lot of respect from me THANKS TONY !!!

Now the car what can i say i live about 30 mins drive from Pete’s garage it tock me 2.5 hours to get home and then only because i had a previous engagement with a niece who wanted to drive the 5 so we went out for another hour and a half, I eventually got home at 4 o’clock that means it tock me 5.5 hours to do 15 miles ( thats some heavy traffic). Somehow i managed to do 90 miles today not bad for a 30 mile round trip it handles great its like a completely new car sticks to corners no more banging from the suspensions only problem is all i want to do is drive it and then drive it some more round any twisty road i can find.

Once again THANKS TO PETE AND TONY

Just fitted mine with A-pex lowering springs over X-mas and had it 4 wheel laser aligned

Wow does it feel better more sure footed and better cornering.

Looks a lot better now MK2.5 's are to high as standard.

Glad you like it!. Thanks,

Pete

Glad you guys got your cars sorted. Just had mine done as well  - after 6months of ownership.  Really wish I’d found the cash and a garage I could trust to do it earlier.  Re-aligment has seen a massive improvement and is justifable on safety grounds as well as raising enjoyment levels.

Mine was WAY out & now that it’s been done - It’s like having NEW suspension.  Completely stopped it crashing around and skipping sideways over bumps.  I have 16" wheels and lowered springs/bilsteins - I am amazed at the improved levels of comfort.  It grips a lot better than before too.

Can only repeat what’s been said on here oft before  alignment should be one of the very first jobs to do on getting a 5.  Spending out on it can save on tyre wear etc and will likely as not transform how the car drives.

All respect to Nigel Langs of course - but for anyone near to me in Bournemouth - I used Mike Stokes Motorsport in Winton. Very helpful service - although they didn’t ask me how I wanted it set up so  I guess my car would have been restored to factory settings therefore. I have the printout and it is different to the above figures. I should have thought to ask really …Doh!

Maybe I will try the settings above next time  - I wonder if wheel size and spring travel - if non-standard - need to be factored in?

Muzo, I live near to Bournemouth, what did it cost to get the alighnment done at Mike Stokes?

Hi Barry

Cost was £94 - but that included removing and replacing locking wheel nuts (as I had no key for them when I got the car). Driven the car more now and still very pleased with their work.

Is it possible it get the optimum settings anywhere then use somebody like Mike Stokes to set the suspension to those settings??

I would think so - I’m printing some car photography onto large canvases for them  - so will ask a few questions about it when in there next.

Or if you need the info quickly I guess you could ask them yourself.  http://www.mikestokes.net/www.mikestokes.net/contact.php

Yes and no!.. We can offer several settings but if one adjuster fails to hit the correct position then the entire calibration needs to be reviewed.

thats a fair bit of camber on the rear no? i run mine at a degree all round with about 0.3 toe front and rear.

i was also told that running as much caster as possible would benefit. is the one at the top 4 something deg because the n/s wouldnt go to 5 deg+ ?

luckily i have access to a 4 wheel aligner for free [H]

Stock rear camber for that trim is -1d 42’ so 1d 50’ is hardly a violation.

Your -1d front/rear reads odd, why have you decided on this position?

i was reading it was a good compromise on tyre wear for road use, the settings on that car would eat the tyres.

b0builder RE Nigel Langs as you are in Rossendale, I take it Nigel Langs is in the north west could you tell me where, I would like my mk2.5 sport checking out

Anything else please ask

Thanks very much for the pointer to Nigel Lang’s b0builder.  Mine’s in for the Eibach Lowering Kit to be fitted on the 17th of April and I was planning on making the journey down to WIM for the alignment to be done, but Nigel Lang’s is only 15 minutes from me [:D]  As it’s something I intend to have checked annually then 15 minutes traveling’s a better option than 4-5 hours!  You seem to have been perfectly happy with their service and the results, so I reckon I’ll be booking mine in there later next month.

I’d love to give WIM my custom but it’s a long way from Manchester to Chesham, and on boring motorways.

When they asked you how you wanted yours setting up, what did you specify?

i just asked for fast road and pete then gave Tony a ring at wim and got the setting of him

The other way you could do it is to ask Tony at WIM for the settings and then go in and give pete the setting i am sure they will both help you out

Thanks b0builder, just the set up I’m after.  It does seem a real cheek asking Tony at WIM for the settings.  At this rate he’s going to spend most of his life answering queries instead of making a living [:(]  To speed things up, and so that I’m not wasting too much of his time, what details will he need about the car, other than model, springs and shocks fitted?  Ride height I assume will be one of them.

Cheers,  Clive

From what i post i have looked at Tony from WIM sounds to be a real MX5 or suspension enthusiast and i think if you where to put a post on his website forum he would answer the question without problem.

I have read post where Tony has offered to ring up garages to make sure they know what they are doing for other customers.

I am the same as you i would love to drive down to WIm and get the master to set my car up but i cannot justify the expense (at the moment ) but i am sure that later on this year i will take a trip down.

I personally would put a post on his site and wait for the answer or even on this site he has been known to pop up now and again and maybe he will answer.

That sounds like an excellent idea mate.  I’ll do that.  Never thought to visit WIM’s own forum - doh!
