Noise from Engine Area on Cold Start up

Hello

Can anyone help me, when I start my car from cold there is a noise like a rattle or knock not loud but more like an intermittent rattle coming from the engine area.

It only happens when its idling and not under power and only does it when its cold. On warm up it goes.

This problem only started after I took it to a specialist for a service and cam belt changed not sure if its related, had a few problems since that great service including the rocker cover leaking and dripping oil.

Please let me know if u have any ideas.

Thanks Simon

Hi Simon which car do you have? It helps with all the technical questions if you pop your details in your sig, like mine. A location in your profile is also a help when recommending local help.

Original question…HLA clatter, if it’s a Mk1. Also who did the lousy service? —

Hello

 Sorry its a 1996, Mk1 with 33,000 miles. 1.6

I am not gonna say who did the lousy service as it may be all unrelated and coincidental.  I presume the rocker cover had to be removed to do the cam belt and the leak started very soon after.  I fixed this myself with the help of forum members.

I thought it might be HLA clatter, but not sure, its kind of a clatter I guess but I thought that was just a couple of seconds on start up, this lasts till the engine is at working temp.

Thanks

Simon
