Number plate lights

My MX5 mk2.5 has just failed its MOT as the rear number plate lights not working, Checked loom and light holders all seem ok … swapped lights over and now one stays on continuously even with the lights off

Any thoughts or ideas ???

Earthing problem me thinks.

The lights stay on until the boot lid is clicked shut.

Yes, I think the idea is that they double up as boot lights. Coincidentally I have just changed mine for led ones about 15 mins ago.

I believe pheonix22 is spot on about the number plate lights. I fitted a relay into the boot light / number plate light wires on my Mk3.5 to do the same. I found that loading the boot in the dark, once something big was loaded, the boot light was often obstructed. I mounted a relay behind the boot plastic trim by the rear n/s wheel arch area.

thanks for the reply’s … all sorted now cleaned the bulb holders and put new bulbs in, all working
