Hi Chaps and Chapesses…
Can anyone confirm whether I can use a standard OBD tester on my MX5 ? Or do I need an adaptor plug type thingy to connect to a standard unit ?

What do you mean by “standard OBD tester” and a “standard unit”? Pre Facelift NB’s (Pre 2001 model MK2) only have a connection through the 17 pin data link connector under the bonnet. They do not have a 16 pin DLC (OBD2) to which I think you are refering.
Thanks for the reply…You are correct in the assumption I have a the 17 pin plug…So here is the 64 million dollar question… How do I diagnose a fault ?
I’ll have to pass on that one for now. I do keep meaning to test a late type system with an LED and jumper wire to see what results I get but have yet to get round to doing it. All I can suggest for now is to find someone with a 17 pin tester. [*-)]
there is some info on the web somewhere how this is done and what the codes mean, I think it is on the Oxford site.
