Oil/ fluid leak?

When parking in my usual spot today I’ve noticed some fresh fluid drops around.  I normally drive into the space (which always seems to be empty) in front on mine, and then reverse back into mine.  Looking at the front of the space in front of mine there appears to be quite a large patch of brown “oil”.  There are also a few other spots of what appears to be dark, slightly transluscent, fluid in some parts of the floor, although it’s difficult to tell the colour due to the amount of dirt on the floor (communial underground parking).  These other spots where wet enough have a slightly satin metalic looking stuff floting on it.  Again I’m not sure if this is dirt.  The main oil patch must have come from the front as the back was never over the place where it is (if it’s my car), and must have happened quickly due to the very short time it was there.  I tried moving it around to find out if more would come out, but could not see anything new (apart from maybe a small drip or two).  I’m not sure what this could be the result of, and is there better ways to check for a leak?  I don’t have a clue about the smell of different oils, so I can’t use that to help.  Also if it makes a difference the reverse is sometimes hard to get into - it just seems to stop a bit before it selects reverse, so I then need to put it into neutral before back into reverse.  Occasionally it’s also hard to get into other gears, sometimes very easy.

Is it best to put it in for a service/ get checked?  The engine oil was changed a few days ago if that makes a difference.

Editted to add:  Earlier today when coming back home I was travelling at 80kmph and was shifting down to 4th gear and went into second instead (6 speed gear box).  Obviously the revs went very high, before I quickly changed up.  Not sure if this would have caused some damage?

Are these showing problems associated with that of the slave cylinder going?

 It could be just old oil run off from changing the oil filter,which is ruuning down the block,best thing to do is put a piece of cardboard under her over night and see what happens first,. then you will know for sure and be able to pin point better where it is dripping from.{#emotions_dlg.thumb}

Hopefully it’s that, :slight_smile:

I didn’t put cardboard down as I didn’t have the chance to, but a quick look this morning seems to show no new oil around.  I guess this indicates the leak is when the engine is running?  Most of the oil is dried black stains now, but a few have a damp residue left.
