Oil in Spark plug wells

Hi folks

Hope anyone can help ,my G reg 1.6 was lumpy in 1st and 2nd this morning, then at lunch it would not start for toffee, cleaned the plugs and the well closest to the fire wall had a lot of oil in it :(  It would start but was lumpy and then stallso after recovering the car home I reckon its the valve cover gasket.

I would normally attemp this myself (reason for buying older car)but unfortunatley my arthritus is flaring up at the moment so a couple of questions

  1. Roughly how much for a garage to do this?

2.Is there anything else I should get done at the same time CAS O ring for example

Many thanks folks :)

Iy will be the rocker cover gasket, they are about 10-15 quid half an hours labour max.  The CAS seal takes about the same time but costs about 3 quid.

Only use genuine Mazda replacements as the aftermarket ones tend to be quite hard so don’t seal properly.  Swap your plugs at the same time, I would think it’s tracking causing most of the problems.

Cheers for the info, bloody lovely cars though such fun and it even decided to misbehave at work rather than the motor way

G’day mate, Welcome to the Forum

I would also fit a new set of plug leads, those on the '5 don’t last long…

Thanks for the welcome , I’m just about to order the bits Cam cover gasket, cas O ring, plugs, leads & sealant

Have I missed anything?

thanks

O  ring and rocker all done.
It will fire up but will stall

new plugs leads, the plugs seem wet, fuel I guess.  Coil dying?

help:(

Did he lead to the AFM get disconnected during the work? If so check the connections

I shall enquire

Lead /lose the AFM as in disconect sorry could you be more specific my case more simple

thanks

Ahh the lead typos are my speciality I’ll have looksie tomorrow  would a dodgy coil do this though? just trying to avoid another £150.00 plus :frowning:

thanks

 Have a look here

It’s a good crib sheet for where everything is

Your timing may be out when you changed the CAS seal that adjusts your timing, set it to 14 degrees BTDC and/or the fast/slow idle needs to be set.

Weell the Mechanic reckons its the AFM so I have just ordered one hope this does the trick

Right I’ve replaced Plugs, leads, coil.crank angle sensor + O ring, airflow box, airflow sensor, new filter and gaskets and O rings, car starts misfires and then the revs drop off, is this the base idle thing or am I barking up the worng path? I’ve just ordered manual and diagnostic tool thinggy so hopefully that will help me a bit.

help

 Its working now

dodgy fuel of all things

arghhhh!

thanks for your help though
