Oil Presssure Guage Faulty?

For a couple of days, the Oil Pressure guage has been flicking quite rapidly fron 0 to normal, if I tap the dashboard the flickering stops and the gauge reads as normal for the rest of the journey. This morning, there was the usual gauge dance for about 5 minutes and then it just stopped at the engine off position. When the flickering is happening there is a sound as if a relay is switching on and off. Two questions. One is there also an oil warning light on the MK1 and Two has anyone got any ideas as to what is happening with the guage?

My Mk1 only has the oil gauge, no sign of a warning light.

 Further to this…

I have tested the sender unit and it seems ok. I now need a new or used guage. I am happy to buy the whole panel and strip it down if it is at the right price. Can anybody help?

G’day Gary

Have you had the binnacle out to change gauges or anything? It sounds like a loose connection somewhere in there.

Yes M8, I’ve had the clocks out and cleaned the connections, nothing at all, I still think the issue is at the top end though.

I have just bought a real guage and sender from Autolink, mind you cant find any sockets big enough to do the job, anyway anyone is welcom to have the old bits for free once i have taken them off.

Steve

Is your old guage from a mk1? If so that would be super!

Yes its from a mk1, but its not a real one, it is a switched dial indication type.

But you can have it once its off., just got to get hold of a 24mm and 30mm socket.

Steve

Thanks Steve, That would be great, I’ll pm you with my address.
