I recently changed the engine in our 5 for another with much less miles. Since then the oil pressure gauge is acting funny. It jumps up and down, sometimes does not work and sometimes works fine.
I have been told that when you change engines you need to change the oil pressure gauge as it mucks up the gauge. Is there any truth to this?
Why on earth would you need to change the guage with the engine? If you were changing the engine for something entirely different, then I could see that you might need something calibrated differently, but apart from that, it’s a guage, it reads out what it gets as an input. So, couple of questions - what is the age of your car? Only the early ones have oil pressure guages that give anything like a realistic readout, so bearing that in mind, if it was working fine before and now isn’t, personally I’d be inclined to suspect the connections or the sender itself. Sounds like a dirty contact / loose contact to me.
