Opitmate Battery Charger

Could any one put my mind at rest,If you put the car battery on charge with the opimate 4 charger do you have to remove the battery leads or can you leave them on whist charging the battery,if you leave them on would it cause any damage to any of the delicate electrical equipment ie ECU etc as you know if you disconnect the barrery you loose the radio/cd code, would you loose any thing else such as alarm, key-less entry

Hi Alan

The optimate range is used with the battery leads in situ, have used these for many years on cars and motorcycles, it should not affect anything fitted to the vehicle.

I used the kit that comes with the Optimate, to fit a pair of leads permanently to the battery, the lead ends up just behind the drivers seat. No need to even go into the boot to put the car on charge…top product IMHO-----------

Yep and theyre made just down the road from me in Cape Town!!
I recently heard the Benton one is better value but you may not be able to get them overseas:

You beat me to it, I was going to ask the self same question!!
My Mk1 was eating Halfords batteries for breakfast, mainly due to me not running the car as regularly as I’d like to, so I shelled out on the westco battery & optimate charger. Just wasn’t sure if it was going to spend more time on the workbench on charge than in the boot!!

Cheers for the info tho peeps

optimate chargers,  brilliant product,  i liked it so much,       i didnt buy the company,   but i was sucessfull in getting three of my mates to invest in one each
