NOW CANCELLED Dennis has become a menace !
Due to family commitments I cannot lead a run on Feb 23rd sorry
Re scheduled to Sunday 16th after bad weather forced the cancellation on the 9th
The Sunday (16th) Run is to Hopton Hall nr Carsington Water, meeting at Towsure, Holme Lane, Hillsborough, Sheffield S6 4JR at just before 10:00, leaving at 10:30, our route will take us by The Ladybower Reservoir to The Hope Valley and up The Winnats Pass and onto Buxton via Sparrow Pit and Dove Holes.
Our late morning comfort stop is at Pooles Cavern in Buxton where we will have a quick tea or coffee in our own private room. Car parking £2.00 (but the meter was not working when we trialed the run).
From there its onto Hopton Hall via Breirlow Bar, Glutton Bridge, Hulme End, Hartington, Newhaven, Pike Hall (No relation to Humpty), Grange Mill Crossroads, Longcliffe, nr Brassington to Hopton Hall where altogether parking has been organized for the MX-5s. The plan is then to ‘Wander through Drifts of delicate snowdrops in 5 acres of woodland and marvel at the first signs of Derbyshire spring’.
The final part of the run is to The Shalimar Indian Restaurant in Rowsley for one of their award winning buffets, via Godfreyhole, Wirksworth, Cromford, Matlock Bath and Matlock. Tables are booked for 3pm.
If the driving and walking conditions are poorand walking through the Woodland to see Snowdrops is difficult, we will spend longer at Pooles Cavern, where those who want to can explore the cavern on a guided tour, then go directly to the Restaurant.
Total Mileage Towsure to The Shalimar approx 60 miles.
