Paint Colour advice please. I'm stuck

A simple question, I thought.

1990 eunos roadster 1.6

after looking on the forum i found that my car is classic red code A3E.

i ring a paint supplier who informed me that A3E is “eternal” red 1999 on.

they also told me that mazda 1990 classic red is code SU.

i have the very useful son in law with all the equipment to prime, rub, sand, fill, paint etc. who says, its easy, just buy the paint & i’ll do the rest.

can anybody advise please??? would much appreciate advice.

G’day Joe

If your car is in the original paint then SU is correct, you can check by looking at the VIN plate on the rear bulkhead in the engine bay. The info is here

http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/267.aspx

What does the VIN plate give as the paint code?

Edit >>> oops, GW beat me to it, and with the link too! [;)]

many thanks geoff & goof.

as usual good advice.

i did look at that link before geoff & classic red comes up twice & i picked the wrong one;

if you look further down the list it shows A3E as well for classic red.

cheers. joe

sorry, further UP the list

Hi Joe, as it says on the link, the link isn’t roadster/MX5 specific. The idea is that you find the paint code from the vin plate and then identify the name. It doesn’t work for all colours

yup. got it mate. thanks.

keep hitting me in the head hard enough & I’ll get the hang of it eventually.

i think the help we all get on this forum if bloody brilliant. well done to all.

Hi, not sure if this thread is still going but I was also after my paint code, trouble is when I went to look at the Vin plate, it doesn’t state a paint code. All it has is the long VIN number and the model number. I have a 1996 1.8 iS in green. UK car. Is the paint code elsewhere on these?

 Hi

This should help as a good source of info…
