Painting mudflaps and removing door mirrors Mk1

Hi All, My car is going in for some body work shortly and the garage agreed to repaint my door mirrors and mudflaps for a pretty low price if I removed and prepped them. So I have 2 questions.

1. I can remove the mirrors easily but want to strip them down by removing the motor and glass , How do you remove the motor, I can see teh screw but can’t get at it.

  1. My mudflaps have some deep scrapes, they seem to be made from a soft polythene style material, I was hoping to sand these down and fill the damage with some P38 filler. Is this going to be possible? Any tricks or special primer required?

Many Thanks

Ian

Using a filler on the mud flaps doesn’t last too long as the flaps are flexible and as a result the filler will crack. Due to the price of a new front set I have repaired and resprayed mine about 4 times but I finally bit the bullet and did buy two new ones.

What I like about the new ones apart from them being new is that they appear to be a bit shorter and are therefore a bit further from the ground, and, touch wood, upto now they haven’t been scraped yet.
