Paul, new to the group, black mk3

Hi everyone I’m Paul, I live in Wakefield but am originally from Staffordshire. I have purchased a black mk3, lowered it 30mm, new 17” wheels, new induction and a manifold back cobra exhaust waiting to be fitted.
Oh and changed the seats for leather heated and a pioneer touch head unit.

Welcome to the club mate

Thanks

Welcome, I agree it’s a lovely looking example.

Thanks, I have a couple of bits of bubble rust I need to get sorted but don’t want it to cost the earth.

Take a step towards sorting sooner rather than later mate.
Also check behind inner arch liners where the side skirt meets the sill, know weak point for internal rusting.

Sorry editing skills not my scene

Will do thanks, I’m at a loss as to where to take it to be honest.

Hi Paul, Steve Garbett MX5 specialist near Goole is the man to sort your rust. You’ll find his number in the MX5 mag. I have a black mk3 too, with heated leather seats …enjoy, cheers Bob

you don’t want this… just inside the nearside rear wheel arch. Further poking made the hole go through on the underside too ;-(

This shows the very worst example of what can happen = Very rusty Mk3 MX5 - NC Miata - YouTube

Have you sorted your scuttle gromits, replaced the FL22 coolant and also the radiator expansion tank yet? Google, or DuckDuckGo, will tell you all.

I just got my Mk 3.5 MOT’d and the garage owner had just done up a MK 3. He told me to take the rear bumper panel off because there’s an unpainted square (beam ?) that can rot through.

I’m not savvy or brave enough to try but others may be able to confirm.

Yeah thats correct mate, unpainted and more than likely rusty.
Check out YouTube for how to, its an hours job tops to remove all thats required.

Replacing all the parts just as easy.

Sorry theres no before pic, but if you need it i can search pc for it later.
Pic is after work carried out.

As Palerider shows the beam across the rear once the bumper is off. It’s pretty solid but prone to rust, I don’t think it will ever rust through, it’s where its bolted to that collects rust. Each side are some hefty bolts holding it to the rear panel, remove these and the bar and inspect/treat behind them on the panel.
My ex car below, I just treated the rusty bits to some black mastic. Behind that painted black section are the brackets either side holding it to the back panel.

Another members car below minus the crash bar. Get the idea, rust behind the brackets?

I could do with a dummies guide. Or maybe I entrust it to the local garage.
