Petrol Filler Cap (chrome) fails to flip up MK2.5.

We have had this MX5 for 3 months now. Bought from trinity Mazda Hinckley. the petrol filler cap often fails to flip up when the internal lever is pulled. The car has been back to trinity twice now, and the problem has just recurred today (embarassingly at the front of  along petrol Q). Usually I can release the cap by squeezing my hand behind the boot trim, and fiidling with the cable. Anybody had similar?

Assuming the cable is releasing the lock pin, there is a spring loaded plunger at the hindge end that gets corroded up and sticks. The flap can be removed easily (it only hooks under the piviot point) then the plunger can be removed, cleaned & greased. It’s a common concern.
