I have a Mk1 1990 1.6, yesterday after filling her up with fuel she refused to start, I have checked all the spark plugs and leads they are fine a good spark, have checked the fuel pump that is workiing ok, battery has plenty of power, cambelt ok,when you turn the key the engine turns over fine, you can hear it wanting to fire up but then nothing[:^)]
I’ve got to ask the obvious question, because the next person will if I don’t;
Was it definitely petrol, not diesel?
Definitely petrol, this was the first question I asked the wife [;)]
I have just done a fault code check what I got was :
2 Ne Signal [:S]
3 G Signal [:S]
8 Airflow meter
12 Throttle position sensor
Any ideas plz
NE and G are both crank angle sensor codes, so I would start there
Are you sure the cambelt han’t snapped. On the MX-5 this happens without the valves hitting the pistons. The easiest way to tell is to open the oil filler cap and see if the cams are rotating while someone spins the engine over on the starter.

01MX5 you were right[::(], I have just found the petrol receipt for the so call petrol the wife put in the car, it was £20 worth of DIESEL [:@] will have to drain the tank, do you think the injectors will be ok.
The injectors should be OK If there flushed with petrol sooner rather than later, As there not designed for diesel any rubber seals may perish or swell if there soaked in it for too long.
First thing you need to do is Find a good divorce lawyer, I’m not saying you need to divorce her on the spot, But having a lawyer on standby might keep her on her toes for a bit.
You’ll probably need to change the fuel filter as well… But sort out the lawyer first ![:D]
If you act really upset there’s also the added bonus that she won’t want to use the car anymore in case she does something else to it. [:D]
