have a mk1, and the near side (passenger) headlight is very tempremental. Sometimes they both come up together straight away, other times it will come up but after a minute of driving and other times it won’t come up at all.
how does the system work? is it electrical or a vacuum circuit similar to central locking?
cheers
Leon
They are operated by small electrical motors. Get your lubricant spray out and lubricate all the headlamp hinges and then try them again.
ok will give that a go in a minute, cheers
right, just had a little rummage around, sprayed everything with wd40 did nothing. found a little cap covering a red knob with a clockwise arrow on it. turned it and it scared the crap outta me!!! the thing started spinning and up popped the lights - now works fine again!!!
is that some sort of manual switch??
Yes.
You need to replace the headlamp relay.
is it expensive? is it situated near the bulk head, the part that clicks when the lights are operated? or is it on the fuse board?
My appologies.
I’ve just read that it’s only 1 lamp not poping up, if that’s right then it’s certainly not the relay as thast controls both.
