Quieter S/S Exhaust

Just about to set off for a run to Filey and my wife said can we go in the other car as she doesn’t like the noisey exhaust Arghh. It came on the car when I bought it, the manifold says Jasma on it but I can’t see anything on the exhaust, it does have a very large diameter tailpipe,. so the question is does a quiet s/s exhaust exist. I would  prefer to retain a s/s exhaust if poss.

Cheers

hi squib,i fitted 100 oval larini duals to my mx5 about 18 months ago, and wife complained about the raspi-ness noise, i said lets wait a bit and see how they work out,

over some time they have now mellowed down quite a lot,   well i say that, or it may well be that she has got used to them now,

anyway, i still abide by what the wife said to me, just after we were married  44 years ago, I YOUR HAPPY LOVE,  THEN SO AM I     [;)]

enjoy ya motor sqib,

I like the s/s noisy exhaust on my car…and on D.J’s California too [:D]

Daft question but is the larger the diameter generally the louder the exhaust, also would it be possible to make the exhaust on mine quieter by any other means,

I had one of these fitted to my Mk1. Sounds good when the loud peddle is pushed but not too loud at normal throttle. Great balance.

As well as the de-cat pipe. It is loud and rasps at about 5000rpm. I love it though!

Cheers guys i’ll have to get the piggy bank back in use

I have ‘downgraded’ my exhaust several times.

I currently have the Magnex which is very well made and substantially quieter than many of the others I’ve tried.

I have this exhaust on my Arizona and would certainly recommend it.  I still have the cat so it certainly isn’t noisy or raspy anywhere in the rev range.  It just makes the exhaust a little deeper and more sporty sounding, perfect balance for me.

Years ago, the Supertrapp exhaust was available for the MX5 (Moss etc), which used discs that the users could use to tune the sound of the exhaust.

Otherwise, look for a Powerflow outlet, and get them to make you a stainless steel exhaust patterned on the factory system.

If you have a local custom exhaust place, pop in and see if they’ll make you a “bung” for the end of the exhaust.
The Scooby and Evo boys have these and they help reduce the decibel level. They’re generally removable so if you’re out in the car yourself you can always remove it and enjoy the din

Thanks for the replies, I called in at a specialist exhaust company in Shefield this week and they suggested another box could be put in somewhere along the system, this they said would reduce the volume. Wouldn’t this cause some back pressure and / or loss in performance.
