I have a 1993 1.6 UK mx5, the car has done 66000 miles and has full service history but un der acceleration there is a rattle from somewhere.
It sounds like a blow from the exhaust but i cant find one, the engine doesnt seem to rattle or tick when idling or under revs. HELP??
Also, i keep hearing about this WYNNS HLA treatment, is that the hydraulic valve lifter treatment???
Many thanks
G’day mate, welcome to the Forum
Quite correct that is what the Wynns product is.
Have a look at the heat shields on your exhaust system for the rattle, especially the one at the front.
Could be transmission backlash noise. Do you find it’s exaggerated when you accelerate in too high a gear?
It would appear, although wont know till i replace it this weekend, that the noise is my catalytic converter disindegrating happily away. So purely as a scientific test i shall replace it with a decat, purely to check though no other reason.
