Hi
We tried to change the rear pads on our mk2 1.8 last weekend but had real trouble trying to undo the 14mm nut screw so we could retract the caliper piston. It’s really rusted on well (gave up in the end as I was starting to round the head off), has anyone tried some sort of rust remover to loosen it free and if so can you point me in the right direction.
Cheers

Have you got a decent 14mm socket? I use a 6-point one that grips the flats so won’t round the corners off. Try WD40 or something like Wurth Rost-Off Ice (I think that’s what it’s called) which freezes it and is quite good for cracking the rust.
Hi Andrew
Thanks for the reply, I tried a socket but couldn’t get it in the gap between the caliper and the handbrake assembly. I tried using a ring spanner but like I said not very succcessfully, will try your idea.
Many Thanks
