Rear hub removal tool OR Rear axle removal tool for mk1s

anyone used a rear hub removal tool or rear axle removal tool on a mk1 that worked well, they like and can post a link for? is it always necessary to use one of those specialised tools? i’ve had the front hubs off and you don’t need to yank them off with such force using a special stick. why are the rear ones like that?

might be leaning towards pulling the axles if its easier.

thanks

Don’t know about one you could buy. I made one to get rear hubs off my mk2.5 a couple of years back, had to put so much force through it I’m sure anything off the shelf would have broken. Pretty sure it would fit mk1. It’s a bit too heavy to post but if your in the midlands may be able to let you borrow it.

I just used a bearing puller when I did mine.

just been looking at some vids of people using these, and it working, definitely would prefer this method, especially since i already have one

thank you for reply and a very generous offer! if i was nearby, i’d certainly want a look :+1: yeah the amount of force you have to use with the pull method … sigh. gonna do some more research. if i have to make one, i will. if there’s something tried and tested i have to buy, then i guess it will be that.

One side of my car came off ok the other did not want to move, hence made tool.
