I managed to go out for a little test drive, this footage is 1440 @ 30fps
It’s looking a little grainy, but much easier to read number plates. My windscreen is a bit filthy, the angle could probably be a bit better which wont be helping. The one downside is that it seems to be quite a bit more shaky than the last camera. I will also test the 1080 @ 60FPS options on the device and probably splash for the polarizing lens.
Thank you for all your help, any further advice getting the best out of the camera is appreciated!
Your first video is positioned way to high with too much bright sky. I have a 522GW with the rear window camera as well and number plates are easily visible on a PC. If your using just the mobile app then try downloading to a PC with the MyNextbase Player where you should find the images (number plates etc…) much clearer. Had my Nextbase setup since last May 2020 with no issues on quality. I admit it’s not top quality like my Garmin XE action camera is but that’s not really made to be used as a dashcam as the videos don’t continually wrap around, the SD card just fills up and then the action cam stops recording.
I have a Nextbase 522GW, front and rear cameras, hardwired using Nextbase’s own kit.
Screenshots below are front and rear, before and after someone wiped their Vauxhall down the side of our Focus! Quality was plenty good enough for the insurers to take 30 seconds to confirm who was at fault!
After this, and irrespective of what one you choose, I implore anyone to get dashcam’s fitted - makes the irritation of being crashed into so much easier to deal with!!
I have exactly the same setup in my 5 (2010 NC), I’ve got the rear camera mounted on an old bracket that was once used by a previous owner to mount an after market wind break - will get a pic for you when I’m next able to.
