Recording on a new 4k TV

On the FVP-5000T you can alter the skip forward and back time settings. I have mine at 1 min forwards and 15 seconds back. I’ve found that advertising breaks vary. They do this to trick us into watching ads! ITV tends to be 3 minutes, channel 4 4 minutes and channel 5… yes 5 minutes!

I use 2 min forward 30 second back. Between most programs on ITV, Dave and Chanel 4 it’s almost always 4 minutes in my experience. Late night programs can be 50 seconds as you’d expect. Don’t think I ever watch Chanel five. Either way you soon learn tour own preferred way to skip them.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. Just getting used to the new TV which was plumbed in yesterday. My daughter had a spare Netflix slot, so this may keep me busy once Sky goes in Jan. Will decide which Humax to buy on the day.

Just a quick suggestion late on in the discussion. BT freeview boxes are available on ebay for very little money. New ones, never been used, can go for as little as £30. You’ll certainly get one for less than £60. These boxes are made by Humax and represent the best value you’ll get anywhere. But as was suggested earlier, most stuff can be streamed these days and once you start using these services, you’ll find the humax redundant. Haven’t used mine in a few years now.

Yes the BT Humax YouView DTR-T1000 that I previously had was great. Current Humax Freeview+ box is even better.

Both have access to all the main streaming / catch up sites including BBC, ITV, Ch4 & Ch5. Streaming is great but two negatives.

  1. Not everything is there forever. A lot of the programs can disappear after a month. Not very good if you have watched parts 1-5 of a drama and suddenly realise that part 6 disappeared yesterday.

  2. You can’t fast forward through the adverts. One of the main reasons I rarely watch live TV apart from BBC.

Set a program to series record on any of the PVRs and unless the box blows a gasket you’ve got it for as long as it takes to get around to watching.

Hmm, in that case this highly specialised music generator, while wonderfully charming, is not quite right simply because it takes too much space for just a a couple of minutes of analogue music storage.

But does a xylophone in a forest make any noise if there is no one to hear it? :eyes:

No it doesn’t. If there’s no one to hear it there’s no one to play it.

■■■■. Fair shout.

Why does it blank l m a o ?

I haven’t got a f***ing clue. If it doesn’t blank that one I apologise. :grinning:

Well I don’t believe it. I’ve just gone back and edited it. The asterisks weren’t there, it was the full rude word. Can’t believe that one didn’t get filtered out. Can’t use words like cr4p but that one crept under the radar.

Because the “a” is rude?

Not very rude tho is it. I mean seriously. I used to play an a CB radio many years ago as a kid, bad language there and here isn’t really what people want. It’s a respectable place and despite the odd disagreements and squabbles people have it should stay that way. Sometimes tho the net nanny should be a bit sensible perhaps?

Let’s leave the real bad language on Facebook with the idiots on there lol.

Very much in favour of the filters but sometimes they are too sensitive, sometimes not enough.

I once attempted to leave feedback on eBay referring to ‘a seller who really cares’. I was informed that I could not leave derogatory feedback. Just couldn’t understand it. The filter had picked up the word ‘who’ and the first two letters of ‘really’.

If you had Sky then you have a satellite dish, so I’d suggest a Freesat box with recording facility.

Thanks 195. that will be my choice. At the moment i’m enjoying the “Netflix” service given to me by my daughter at xmas. I’m also using the BBC I’Player service to catch up, but my TV does not have the other catch up facilities, so a freeview box will be needed.

Don’t confuse Freesat with Freeview.

Freesat uses your Sky dish (for free!)
Freeview uses you roof aerial

I have a small WD small 1TB hard drive stuck into USB port, I can store lots of contact and still 50% available.

Thanks Hammo,
I’m that busy watching thing’s like Netflix, IPlayer and the ITV Hub that my recording needs have diminished. Take care.
