Reliable starting and running

It can be frustrating when our mx-5s don’t start for whatever reason. Low annual mileage can be a problem, with less frequent use. I’m a great believer in regular use and keeping the battery fully charged, not only for starting but also avoiding other issues. Cars like to be used not stuck in a garage or under a cover for weeks on end. I use my ND2 throughout the year, but only when the roads are free from salt and ideally dry. My routine is to keep the battery charged using a CTEK MXS 5.0 charger (other good ones are available) when not is use. In the winter I manage to hit the roads every couple of weeks or so, but last winter, with all the rain, it was off the road for longer periods. For me the benefits of adopting this regime has meant that the car starts first time every time. Batteries can last for years with the right treatment; mine is coming up to 6 years old and is the original battery.
