replacement pvc window - do it yourslef???

Hi,

Just recently I gave my hood a quick stretch out and went for a spin without my hard top on. I knew when i bought the car that the hood hadn’t been used much in its 19 year life and is still the original. However, the rear window had seen better days and you guessed it! It has developed a split. I’m on a budget at present and not in a position to spend on a replacement or new hood, and wondered if anyone had ever been succesful in sourcing some flexible pvc themselves, cutting to size and attaching this with a strong water proof adhesive?? I’m not looking for perfection but could this work?

I have sourced the pvc locally and retails for less than £10 for what i need.

Cheers

 Certainly  can be done:

And some tips from the trade:

cheers for that…items ordered and all for under £15. If it turns out ok I’ll post later…if not, you’ll know it went wrong and looked really pap.

first effort was pap…advised on wrong adhesive which was really messy, did not bond the vinyl very well and really wouldn’t have stayed on long.  I’m gonna give it one last try with a different adhesive and I think I’m going to try from the outside this time.

I’ll update again soon.

Could someone please post a good picture, to show how the GLASS rear window is fixed to the soft top. I would like to try experimenting with fastening glass to the soft top material.

I’m getting a glass rear screen delivered in the next few days so I can “hopefully” have it stitched into my rear screen by Raymond at Jack Smith Trimmers. My NEW plastic rear screen cracked last week, Raymond said he would replace the plastic screen but I’ve sourced a glass one and I’m going to see what he can do. Even if he has to make me a new rear panel to fit it, I reckon it will be worth it to not be worrying about cracking the next screen. I’m ringing him tomorrow about it. When the screen arrives I’ll take some close up pictures of it for you, Polly.

Hi halli, where did you get your glass one from?
