I took my front wheel off yesterday and noticed that the pads are getting low. As I don’t drive the car hard and it had new pads and calipers 10,000 miles ago I’m wondering if there is a problem with the sliders and if they are worth replacing? What do you think? 10,000 miles doesn’t seem many miles to me.
Depends what you term low, or are they just half worn?
Half worn sounds about right for 10k miles of steady driving/braking. If you think the sliders for instance are seizing try testing to see if one or both discs are excessively hot after a drive. You may also have sticking a caliper(s) annual maintenance is the way to go with brakes, a strip clean and lube keeps them working as they should.
If both pads in each caliper are wearing evenly then the brakes are working properly. If 1 pad is wearing unevenly than you have an issue with either the sliding pins or pistons.
The factory brakes always tend to wear the inner pad more than the outer.
Not checked the passenger side yet. The drivers side was probably about 5mm. I’ve had the same set on my Defender for 40,000 miles which makes me wonder about the wear on the MX5
