Roll Protection

Hi, i am looking for a bit of information regarding how safe would i be if i was to roll my mk1 on its roof. it has a soft top fitted at the moment and thats it no other roll protection at all, reason for asking is i will be entering a few local auto tests coming soon and would like to know how if the soft top gives any protection at all, or would it be worth fitting a hardtop and or rollbar etc.

Thanks

Officially there is no roll protection.  In practice they often survive one roll before the windscreen frame collapses.  Many tin-tops are the same.

You would be very hard pressed to roll one on an Autotest…

I have only heard of one roll in the past 3 years and he slid off a non standard circuit (bovington tank museum…with hinklemans!!!)

the car dug into soft dirt and went over…

Nearly 3 years of track driving and Ive not seen one go.

If its for peace of mind try

TR LANE fabrications

or search on fleabay for a 2nd hand cages…Dont get a “style” bar that only bolts to the setbelt mounts…it wont do nowt

Shold have at least 4 legs the 2 rears going onto the chassis direct

I have a Hard Dog Hard Bar waiting to go on my 5: http://www.bethania-garage.com/

They do all kinds of bars and will ship direct to the UK. Odds are you’ll get “done” for VAT and bank transfer charges by good ol’ customs and your bank so it’ll cost more than the sticker price!
