Roof Off in Harbourne

Mk 1 - You looked really happy roof off today in Harbourne High Street, Brum.
There was an NC behind you covered in snow !
 1 LOL

 Hello Bob,

Indeed we were happy ! We can not have the roof off very often at this time of the year,  so every time we can, we do it !
And it is even funnier when there is snow all around you… Hopefully for us, the heater of the MK1 are absolutely brillant.

Nice to see that there are some people from the forum around Harborne !
Have a nice day,

Cyril

Hiya C,
I was on my way back home after buying a Mazda3 for my wife.  The chap we got it from is an old trader pal, his wife runs a black Mk 3. He lives just round the corner from where we passed.

When we picked the 3 up last Monday, he’d just taken in p/x a late Mk 2 in green which he’ll be selling.
Do you go to the Phoenix meetings in Hockley Heath ?

Hello Bob,

I didn’t know about the meetings, but that’s good to know it exists. I might be tempted on day. I will wander on the forum to learn a bit more about the MX-5 community first.

To tell the truth, I was mainly coming on the forum to find some advices and to see if someone had the same problem as the one I am trying to solve and when I saw this subject, I have been very surprised! And now, I think that the best way to find wether or not my 5 is doing a strange noise, is to come at one of this meeting and to listen to the other ones!!

So yes, I will certainly try to be there the next time!

Cheers,

Cyril

 What’s the noise you’ve got ?

It is a kind of rattle when the car is cold, but now it lasts longer, even when the car is warm.

I have just changed the oil and the oil filter and I will try to change the fuel filter. I also had a new timing belt + water pump fitted 1,000 miles ago.
As I have some white fumes, I fear the worst, but with the cold and humid weather we have, I hope it is only the condensation. My girlfriend drives it during the week on a short distance, so I will try to take it this WE on a long run and will definitely see it my engine is still waterprrof or if the coolant begins to mix with the oil. Finger crossed.
It is an 1.8 from 95 with 150 000 miles, and very poor maintenance up to now, so It try to update it step by step.

By the way, do you know when will be the next meeting in the West Midlands ?

 Have a good evening.
Cyril

Cyril - Their next meeting in Wed 04 March at The Wharf pub in Hockley Heath, B94 6QT.

I’ll try to get there, look for BOB or LOL reg number on Red Mk 1.

There are always plenty of clever poeple there who should be able to advise you. Mark is a good name to ask for, he knows everything ! almost …

There are plenty of people to ask 26 cars last month…[:D]

 Ok,

Thank you for the info, I will try to be there too so.
Good news for me : I have done some good long run and I have no more white fumes [:D]. It’s a kind of relief for me.
But I still have this kind of “diesel” noise when cold and then fro, time to time. I have read a few topics on that on the forum, so I will try to investigate a bit more !
 Have a good day !
Cyril

Cyril, sounds like it could be HLA’s see this post http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/p/218/379.aspx#379

But come along to the Wharf anyway, no need to be a member, and plenty of 5’s there.
