I have been looking to get more power out of my car and decided to go down the supercharger route until someone sent me a link to an advert with anRX7 engine and gearbox up for sale as a complete package. Does anyone know if this has been done before in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” /><st1:country-region w:st=“on”><st1:place w:st=“on”>UK</st1:place></st1:country-region>? I am no stranger to retro fitting engines so the fitting is no issue, I just wondered if the lighter engine upsets the balance of the 5 and if it is worth the effort.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” /><o:p></o:p>Any feedback would be welcome.<o:p></o:p>Brad<o:p></o:p>
Loads of these conversions in Australia and the USA, a mate of mine in Brisbane is putting a complete RX8 system into an NC.

Is it a turbo rx engine? if so could be a bit of a tight fit with the twin turbo set up, but take the ac pump off and fit a single turbo conversion and shoud fit easy? plus the potensial of 500 + bhp go for it. The rx7 handles ok prity much the same as the mx realy other than they are a lot more powerfull 240ish standard.
i just you tubed it and OH MY GOD! they look awesome fun
Someone I used to work with had an MX-5 in South Africa he used to race. He had a Triple Rotor ‘20B’ motor out of a cosmo. He said he had a ‘monster port’ done and the motor was good for close to 1000bhp although the chassis limited this.
I have seen pictures, but no video…
My partner and I are tempted to give this a conversion a go - mostly because I have a soft spot for the rx7 but still want my soft top.
Maybe a project for next summer…would love to see someone have a pop and follow their progress.
