I got my newly repaired rear screen back from Jack Smith’s today after the plastic screen that they supplied split in the recent cold weather.
Glass screen bonded and sewn in and looks a treat.
However, The rear screen sags at the bottom and the roof won’t go down now The hood has always caught on the style bars, I might take them off and see if it is any better.
Any ideas? I’m going to ring Raymond tomorrow to see what he says.
The retro-fitted glass windows (usually a 2CV part) always sagged badly. Some manufacturers adopted a complex system of straps to reduce the sag (but never eliminated). Additionally, the glass used is flat, but the Mk2 glass is curved. Duetto did an upgrade with curved glass, but since these windows have to be unzipped still, the glass had to be reduced to a piller box shape to stop the hood frame breaking it…
You can adjust a hood frame to clear a style bar; under the seatbelt trims, locate the 3 15mm bolts (per side) that secure the frame hinges. Loosen them. Raise the hood halfway. You will notice there is a little play in the mounting point. Reposition the frame so the bow clears your style bar. Retighten.
New one fits much better and the roof folds down now. I’ll have to get the hang of it though as it takes a little longer now.
I think Raymond was a bit pee’d off as he has had to cut out a whole new section at his expense - it shows in the stitching and the rain rail part on this panel compared to the original, tatty stitching and not as much reinforcement on the rain rail part. It’s in and none of the tatty bits are visible though. let’s hope it is water tight!
