A change of scenery
Please note, exact timings will be posted shortly, but we aim to be arriving at the lunch venue at 3p.m.
Timing Run now completed!
This is not a long run, so to give those of you travelling from Leicester, Nottingham etc the chance for a Sunday lie-in we should be ready to leave the Friendly Farmer at 11:00 pm. So arrival at about 10:30 should be About right!
Whilst scoping out my short run to RAF Coningsby recently it became obvious that there are one or two decent roads in Lincolnshire, so we decided that it may be a good idea to explore some of them. Hopefully you’ll agree.
We’ll be starting from the ‘Friendly Farmer’ which is a cafe/farmshop type place in Newark. It sells breakfast if needed and has toilets and a reasonably sized car park. It’s on the roundabout at Newark where the A46 & A17 meet. The postcode is NG24 2NY.
From there we’ll be going along some nice country lanes to the market town of Horncastle, where we’ll stop at a garden centre for a coffee/toilet break.
After that we’ll be taking a circuitous route back towards Newark, ending at ‘Caunton Beck’ in Caunton. Postcode NG23 6AB. They’ve very kindly put together a menu for us. The cost will be £13 for a main course only, £15 for 2 courses and £18 for 3 courses. The options are:
Starters
Soup of the day
Grilled Goats Cheese, Beetroot & Walnut Salad
Chicken Liver Parfait, Red Onion Marmalade & Toast
Mains
Roast Derbyshire Pork Loin, Apple & Cider Compote, Crackling & Roast Potatoes
Roast Breast of Chicken, Confit Tomato, Melting Brie & Sauce Vierge
Roast Beef with Vegetables & Roast Potatoes
Roast Coley Fillet, Crushed Peas & Hollandaise
Grilled Sage & Stilton Polenta, Wild Mushrooms, Green Beans & Chive Oil
Puddings
Warm Sticky Toffee Pudding, Salted Caramel Sauce & Banana Ice Cream
White Chocolate & Berry Creme Brulee & Raspberry Sorbet
Lemon Cheesecake
N.B. The Caunton Beck can cater for up to 40 of us in comfort. If we exceed this number then you’ll be welcome to join the run and maybe explore Newark, where there’s a variety of places for lunch
If you’d like to come along please add your name to this thread, along with your food choices, which should be made ASAP and by Weds 21st August at the latest. Cheers
