Scratched rear screen (Mk.1)

During the cold weather I used a brush to remove snow and ice from the (brand new) plastic window on my car. It’s now covered in thousands of micro-scratches and swirls. Does anyone know of a way to remove them? I see there’s some stuff on mx5parts for cleaning the screens, but would this remove the scratches? Any other suggestions welcomed… Cheers.

You can not remove scratches from paint or plastic. What happens when you use “Scratch Removers” is that you remove material, be it plastic or paint, from the surrounding area of the scratches.  You have to remove enough material from the surrounding area of the scratches until it is level or below the bottom of the scratch. This then “removes the scratches”.   Scratch Remover is a misnomer.

Yes, I realise this is the only mechanism by which any scratch-removing product could work; you cannot put back what has been taken away. Perhaps I should have asked if there are any products which will remove sufficient plastic from the rest of the screen in order to create the impression that the scratches have in fact been removed. Thanks for the reply.

Meguiars Plast X does a good job for me-----

Have now answered my own question! In my cleaning bag, I found a bottle of the Renovo stuff to which I referred earlier, which I had bought from mx5parts ages ago and forgotten about. I was able to polish out most of the scratches with one application. This is good stuff, I’d recommend it.
