A deep clean of your vehicle before and after the service maybe, or just a quick wipe over with a wet wipe, steering wheel and knob (gear knobšŸ˜²)

Iā€™ve just had an email from a Lexus dealership which says, inter alia:

Social Distancing
We will be taking extensive measures to ensure the health and wellbeing of our customers and colleagues at all our sites by implementing strict social distancing guidelines and other preventive measures in our facilities to ensure we can operate safely. All of our sites have made layout changes for 2 metres spacing, implemented clear signage and introduced enhanced front-of-house and back-of-house cleaning procedures and ā€˜no touchā€™ policy to ensure that social distancing rules are followed.

Protection
In addition to implementing the strict social distancing measures, we have ethically sourced and invested heavily in enhanced cleaning procedures, the supply of hand sanitiser stations, isopropyl alcohol-based sprays, gloves, facemasks and protective safety screens to ensure our sites are as safe as possible to receive visitors.

Your vehicle
All vehicles will be subject to cleaning procedures and protection before we handle it and before it is returned to you. This will include external touch areas, door handles, seats, steering wheel, gear lever, handbrake etc.

All this obviously costs money/time/resources - whether any given dealershipā€™s charges are reasonable is, of course, a matter of opinion.

So had our Nissan Juke serviced and MOTed at our trusted local independent yesterday.

Total charge Ā£130.22 including the MOT and VAT.

Gazebo in the car park as a customer waiting area. Reception desk outside. Credit card machine sanitised before and after use. The only other noticeable difference from last year was that the car was smelling like a tartā€™s boudoir on collection.

Invoice included grease / lubes / protectives at Ā£1.50 and Environmental Disposal at Ā£2.27. Exactly the same as last year.

Never ripped me off and never will. Theyā€™ve gone to great efforts to do everything they can to keep themselves and their customerā€™s safe at their own expense not their customers.

Riccardo Emiliani in Lincoln if anyone is interested.

Had my NB serviced the day lock down came in. Service had been booked in - offered to defer and the dealer declined. Normal service charge with no extras. Mazda main dealer near Salisbury.
