Service in West London advice?

Hi there, any idea where to get an Mx5 Mk2 serviced in this area? prepared to travel to the right
outfit, much appreciated,
 Carl

Try Cox and Buckles in Wimbledon, advert in STHT and maybe discounts for members.
Performance 5 near Hillingdon, discounts to members.

The main man has left Cox & Buckles (Mark is no longer there) :frowning:

Could always come to Guildford, I go to Fox’s Garage (just off Ladymead) for mot/service.

Hi there, do we know where he went? Good mechanics on these vehicles are worth their weight in gold if he
was doing the maintenance. thanks

Think he’s taking some time out, I believe he plans to open up another garage in the future.

Where has my old post count and account gone?

strange 2 accounts now with the same name???

Hi - welcome to the “new & improved” forum! lol
How you doing anyway?

Hi all

A bit of a trek I know, but you could also try Mark Fryer of Freelancemazda (www.freelancemazda.co.uk) who is based near Chatham.  Mark is an ex-Mazda mechanic and very familiar with the MX-5.  Have sent several members in his direction and not heard anything bad back!

Bob

I went to Mark on Bob’s advice for a major service, new cambelt, timing and water pump.

Bit of a trek from Camden but well worth it.

Mark was very accommodating, very friendly, very knowledgeable and all attached to a fantastic price.

Now if only I could work out a way to get him to move to London…[;)]

Thanks for the great tip off Bob!

Me an Alison have been hectic busy the past few months but hope to catch up with you at a Dysart meet soon.

Hey En4cer,

I’ve got an emergency MOT to get done (crept up on me a bit) and was going to give Cox and Buckles a go, where are you going now that Mark has left?

The only place I can think of and has been suggested in another post is Dandy cars.

I haven’t got anywhere ear marked yet.

Call Cox and buckles and ask for Mark, he might have returned, he’s a bit like that

Let us know how u get on or if you find anywhere else.

I heard Dandy are expensive and a bit of a trek?

Hi there

Glad you got on well with Mark.  That means I can keep recommending him with a clear conscience [:)]

If it’s just an MOT and you’re confident the car is going to pass (??) then any reputable MOT testing garage should be OK.  In the past I’ve used a local Lex Autocentre (West Ealing) as it was reasonably clean and very convenient (I could walk there in 10 minutes).

Bob

I ended up going to Mark at Freelance Mazda again since I fancied a day off to sort out some stuff and have a bit of a burn in the car.

Glad I did as the clutch had been feeling a bit odd, I thought it felt like the cable was on the way out not realizing that they are hydraulic.

Luckily I mentioned it, turns out it was the slave cylinder on the verge of self destruction [:S] which would have resulted in needing a new clutch entirely and even more luckily he had the part in stock.

He also made a strangle rattle at around 3000 revs dissappear.

On the MOT front all that was needed was a new bulb so I’m good for another year [:D].

Hey En4cer, a bit OT but have you had any thoughts about organizing another North Weald day? Last one was excellent! Did any of the member video’s or photo’s get stuck up anywhere?

Hi mate. I have organised another one, but someone else has taken over the reins. (Holiday and all that)

Get yourself over to PlanetMX5 and have a look

I realise this thread is semi-dead, but it’s worth pointing out that whilst Dandycars is a trek for some people (from where I am in Edgware its only a half-hour drive), they’re not expensive (they’re pricey for cars, not for servicing) and their mechanics have been working solely with MX5s for many years. Richard, Eren and Su have all been great with my car, and the bosses Gary and Bill are very friendly.

Just another recommendation to throw into the pot!

Cheers

Any other thoughts on servicing in west London and west of London? I’m in Barnes so Dandy cars is a bit of a hack.

Not entirely on theme…but I’ve been sent details of a place we could use for carrying out our own work on our cars.

So, what do we think?  Is it something we could make use of?  If you look on the website you’ll get an idea of the facilities on offer and the prices.

Bob

Hey Bob,

This is certainly something I would be hugely interested in.

Particularly if we could organise some group sessions with ‘experts’, maybe like a waxyol/rustproof event or a brake day etc.
