Should I get a stainless sports exhaust?

The Scorpion full system is after the manifold and first cat. It deletes the second cat and resonator box, (centre box) has passed MOT for four years plus with this set up. Sounds lovely to my mind, with just the right amount of pop and crackle on the overrun. Not boomy on the motorway, hardly louder than standard under light load,
Hope this helps, kind regards
Marc

It helps swing the balance to me spending more money lol thanks Marc

I’ll add to this as I feel qualified to do so.

I’ve had three MX5’s, an NA 1.6 Eunos Roadster, an NB2 1.6 Phoenix and now my ND1 2.0 Z-Sport.

Many years ago when I had my NA I spent a bit of money sorting it out - wheel bearings, new headlights, new headrest speakers etc

One thing that did need replaced was the exhaust. So I went down the s/s route, mainly for it not corroding. I knew it would be a bit louder, but bloody hell, this was a ‘quiet one’ from MX5 Parts, and it was noisy.

It must have woken my neighbours every morning, and I certainly heard the drone whilst driving, which became very annoying. It was almost embarrassing to drive.

So, my answer is no, don’t do it, you’ll regret it and it’ll diminish your enjoyment of the car. Just my opinion of course.

I think it really depends on the exhaust. I had a Mazdaspeed back box on my NA which while it had a deeper note was not loud enough get any complaints from my wife (who detests loud cars). I’ve got a full BBR manifold, mid pipe and GT back box on my ND and you wouldn’t know it wasn’t OEM until quite high up the rev range. As a rule of thumb, if it’s cheap it’ll be loud and droney. If it’s properly designed for the car and not built down to a price, it’s much less likely.
