After my wife had her Honda Jazz written off by a foreign HGV on the M25 last year, and I was nearly made a statistic by a breakdown lorry pulling out in me whilst I was out on my bike, I’ve now fitted dash cams to all our vehicles. In fact I’m currently in the process of fitting a rear facing cam to the MX as well, just as soon as I can get my dubious fabrication skills going.
It’s interesting that my wifes insurance company strongly advocated a dash cam be fitted on the replacement vehicle, and said that it made the whole claim procedure far easier… although they didn’t actually offer discount for doing so :o/
So it may be worth considering? BTW it works out far better to get an integrated front/rear combo rather than (as I have done) buy two separate ‘stand alone’ units.
I have fitted a K1S dual-HD dash-cam system to the MX-5. Only the forward-facing camera hooked up so far but it works fine and has the benefit that because the DVR is tucked out of sight I can leave the camera in the car when I park it up without worrying that someone is going to break in to steal it.
Both worthwhile mods. Don’t by a new RX8 stalk from Mazda though as they are big £££. They often turn up on eBay and, if you are quick, off the forum. Shop around for the smart top module as well had mine from PPCGB. Excellent service and if my memory serves me right it was £75 cheaper than other suppliers
Picture of early RX8 / Mazda 6 steering wheel on my NC, as previous post had to swap the “explosive” canister from the NC wheel onto this wheel as RX8/6 wheels have twin plugs - MX5 single plug - everything works, cruise control will work when I have the module fitted, what fun we have !.
Cheap (and nasty?) mod = found that my mobile wedges well in front of the rpm dial so i can see the torque app readouts easily (bottom left is a mini map).
Photo taken whilst stationary - for obvious reasons.
