And I still have the MK1 I spent 6 months finding … travelling the length and breadth of the country searching for a good one.
In the end I found the right one under my nose, at the place I work! Typical!
It was sat on steel wheels and is the 1.6 lower power version - it is also in Red … I wanted Alloys, 1.8 and NOT Red!
Now, 6 years on, used as a summer/toy car, it has been brilliant! The 1.6 unit is fantastic and very underrated, my friend has a 1.8 and it is a lazy unit in comparison … I run the 1.6 on Super Petrol and have advanced the ignition significantly - it is sprightly!
I looked at loads of rubbish when searching, that was 6 years ago, I would imagine it’s pretty much impossible to find a straight, immaculate, MK1 for sale nowadays? I certainly don’t see many MK1’s as good as my 1995 example - maybe they are all locked away?
It’s now got 77,000 miles on it and a folder of history - it’s garaged all the time and I have no idea what the hood looks like! Dry miles only for 6 years!
Just thought I would pass on my experience - I am looking at the MK3 new prices - but, I’m really stuck … I would have to keep the MK1 too! And there are allready 5 cars in the family - maybe I can start a museum?
