Slow retracting seatbelts

I think the silicone will. Its a quick fix, but the belt will get worse. Properly cleaning, as you found, is the way to go.

Id definately suggest a deep clean as shown by MX-Pilot, and maybe relace the seat guides.

I also have another idea, but I need an old belt to prove this will work.

The webbing is held in to the spool with a plastic wedge.
My theory is that you could extend the belt fully, somehow locking the spool in place.
Remove the plastic wedge and webbing.
Rotate the spool one more turn, and then refit the webbing/wedge

I guess that this would need to be performed off the car, with some sort of jig.
I’m just waiting for someone to donate a seat belt.

This is not aimed at you personally Keat63, it’s anyone’s choice what they do, but besides the fact that they are pyrotechnic seat belts, I wouldn’t advise anyone without the relevant skills and experience to tamper with seat belt mechanisms.
